Monkey running

I'd heard there were some monkeys in town. Chimps to be exact. Located on the south side of the Thames between London Bridge and Tower Bridge. I pulled on my running shoes and set out to investigate.

Chimps are family are a series of bronze sculptures by artists Gillie and Marc Schattner who recently did a similar thing with lions near Waterloo. The aim of the work is to support conservation projects and raise awareness of the plight of chimpanzees.

There are 28 chimps spread over 18 statues. Each displays a behaviour or emotion from throwing stones to caring for young. I only managed to find 17 of the works as the one outside London Bridge Station seemed to be missing.

Here they are for you to see. Do go and visit them though to appreciate the scale and impact of them in situ. There are also QR codes to scan and read more.
