Marathon day. 26 miles and of course an extra 0.2 because who wouldn't. Seriously.

I overslept today and reached John's house half an hour late. I also ran out of Weetabix and had to have toast and jam instead. Yes, my planning is starting to fall away at the critical stage. Again John sacrificed his morning to support me and did I need him today? Yes, yes I did. Especially when I was puking on the football pitch after 5 miles.

My guess is that the change to my breakfast diet didn't agree with me. Anyway after that I felt fine. We completed 12 laps in the pouring rain and strong wind. A very friendly man who was out walking his dog stopped for a chat. His arm was in a sling following a shoulder operation. He chatted about rugby, the madness of running the date and then wished us all the best.

We arrived at Buttys with 10 miles completed and gorged on a veggie breakfast and coffee although I couldn't finish the Halloumi. I needed carbs and salts fast.

There was a good example of runner's brain when John, watching the gusting wind, told me we needed to find a wind tunnel to run in....but without the wind. Just a tunnel then.

Nicely rested we set off on part two and this time did a long route down the Leas through town, out to Cheriton and beyond. The wind was in our faces the whole way and it was tough going. We continued down Horn Street to Seabrook, and then along the seafront with the wind at our backs. We passed the Harbour and Tontine Street went north to Radnor park and took the day's 26 photo. Us and 26 ducks. Perfect weather and all that.

From there it was back to Johns. I left him there and had to speed up to try and get to my daughters nursery before she left. I arrived just in time, soaked to the skin and dripping everywhere. I said hello and then jogged home.

At 12:30 I had arranged the Castle House Mile. This is the name of the building I work in. I'd advertised to my colleagues and the other three businesses based there to see if anyone wanted to walk or run a mile with me on Marathon Day. I was pleasantly surprised that, despite the weather, nine people turned up. Three were from my Couch 25K group, three from Fresh Start and three MAF staff that walked.

We ran a mile and then Beth, James and Dom from fresh Start offered to do my last 1.2 miles with me too. The kindness of strangers (they aren't strange, they are actually very nice).

That was it 26.2 miles done. The grand total now stands at 351 with 114 to go and just 4 days until the end - not that I'm counting....
